(expired)Will Cowen Be A Cut Above The Rest?
Following today’s announcement by Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny that he will take a 5% pay cut next year as a symbolic gesture, cheeky bookie Paddy Power have released odds on which major public figure will follow suit.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen is their 2/1 favourite to cut his income followed by Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore at 3/1. Other big names on the bookies list include Aer Lingus Chief Dermot Mannion at 4/1, HSE Chief Brendan Drumm at 10/1 and Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni at 25/1.
Despite the fact Pat Kenny signed a new Late Late contract earlier this year, RTE’s number one is 25/1 on the list to give the state broadcaster a dig out and take a salary cut. Long shot outsiders in the betting include FAI Chief John Delaney at 40/1 and doom and gloom merchant George Lee at 66/1.
Paddy Power are also offering odds on what TDs will give up next. Make-up expenses are the 2/1 favourite to go first, followed by Ministerial cars at 4/1 and the famous free Dáil envelopes at 6/1. It’s an unlikely 40/1 that Government TDs will hand over their pensions as a symbolic gesture!
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said, “Enda Kenny has really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons by announcing a 5% pay cut and it will be interesting to see who will be next to step up to the plate and make the grand gesture!”Next person to announce they will take a pay cut?
