London launched the capital’s bike hire scheme today and the 6,000 bikes around London will be not only a target for thieves but also celebs out to show off their “green” credentials. Paddy Power quotes 5/4 that over 40 bikes will go missing in the first year and a more optimistic outlook at 2/1 that under 10 will disappear.

Coverage hungry Katie Price is the 4/1 favourite to be the first celebrity to be photographed using the green public transport. David Cameron could show his support if security allows at 12/1, whilst Simon Cowell could drop the roller for a push bike at 33/1. Less likely though is Kate Middleton at 100/1 or The Queen at 500/1.

Roberto Coladangelo spokesman for Paddy Power said “The new bike hire scheme appears to have got off to a good start with Londoners out and about today in the warm weather. Many critics though fear theft and vandalism will wreak havoc with the project and it remains to be seen if the security measures prevent the bikes vanishing. What we are sure about is attention grabbing celebs will be using the bikes to help boost their tree hugging reputations.”
