(expired)Weekend Betting Preview 4-5 Oct

This weekend sees the last round of Premiership matches for two weeks before the international break for the World Cup qualifiers. After an impressive win in Europe in mid week Manchester United travel to Blackburn on Saturday, where they will be met by United old boy Paul Ince. Bolton travel to East London on Sunday to meet West Ham, while later that day Everton welcome Newcastle to Goodison Park. In Scotland Rangers will look to maintain their lead at the top of the SPL when they visit St. Mirren, with this weekend’s racing coming from Newmarket with the Cambridgeshire.

Blackburn v Manchester United, Saturday, Setanta Sports 1, 5:30pm

After a slow start to the season United are beginning to find form, and that was evident in their midweek victory in Denmark against Aalborg. Dimitar Berbatov finally opened his account for the Red Devils with a second half brace to seal the game for United. Wayne Rooney had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, although he later limped off on the hour mark, joining Paul Scholes in the treatment room. Blackburn have also begun to develop under Paul Ince, after a shaky start that had some fans at Ewood Park questioning Paul Ince’s experience. However, after conceding eight in their first two games against West Ham and Arsenal, they have won three on the bounce. Successive 1-0 home wins over Everton and Fulham were backed up by last weeks 2-1 win over Newcastle, a game that was nearly sewn up in the first half. They will need to produce something similar to Saturday evening if they are to get anything from the English and European Champions, especially as United appear to overcome their early season wobble.Blackburn are 5/1 with Centrebet to continue their good form, while Manchester United are 8/15 with BetWithRed to take the points from Ewood Park.

If Carlos Tevez scores at anytime during Blackburn v Manchester United, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.¹

West Ham United v Bolton Wanderers, Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 1:30pm

West Ham have had an impressive start to the season, and Alan Curbishley’s men currently stand 5th with 4 wins from their opening six games. They are particularly impressive going forward, with Carlton Cole, Dean Ashton and new signing David Di Michele all contributing so far. However they suffered another big blow last week when Ashton again broke down in training with his troublesome ankle, an injury that has also prevented him from making an impression on the international scene for England. In contrast to the Hammers, Bolton have had a difficult start to the season following their opening day win at home to Stoke. After narrow defeats to Newcastle and Fulham, with a League Cup defeat to Northampton sandwiched in between, the fixture list has not been kind as they faced Arsenal and Manchester United on consecutive weekends. They were unfortunate in both games, as they lost 3-1 to Arsenal after taking the lead, and were keeping United at bay until the Red’s were awarded a penalty after Ronaldo went down with seemingly no contact. They will hope for a bit more luck in East London as they search for their second win of the season.

West Ham are favourites with another bookmaker at 8/11, with Bolton outsiders with BGbet at 10/3.

If Luis Boa Morte scores at anytime during West Ham v Bolton, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.¹

Everton v Newcastle United, Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 4:00pm

Everton welcome Newcastle to Goodison on Saturday, with both teams still looking for the spark to really ignite their season. Although Everton have not had their most impressive start to the season, their games have certainly been entertaining, and have seen plenty of goals. That will mean nothing to Toffee fans following last weekend’s defeat in the Merseyside derby, as two goals from Fernando Torres gave Liverpool bragging rights in the city once again. Tim Cahill’s dismissal in the 80th minute capped a dismal day for Everton, and they will look to this game as a chance to gain a much needed first home win of the season. The turmoil surrounding Newcastle continued this week, as owner Mike Ashley lowered his asking price for the club, prompting a host of foreign investors to stake their interest. With new manager Joe Kinnear only expected to see out the month of October in his current role, there appears to be no end to the uncertainness surrounding the club until a new owner is found. This unease has been on display on the pitch, with four consecutive defeats damaging what had been a promising start in their opening two games. However, recent 2-1 home defeats to Spurs in the cup, and Hull in the league, have sent the Toon into the lower reaches of the Premiership. It will be interesting to see whether Kinnear can have any effect on the team, or if he is merely just a stop gap until new owners signal a return for Kevin Keegan.

Everton are 3/4 with VCbet to secure their first home win, and another bookmaker make Newcastle the 3/1 outsiders to get their season back on track.

If Victor Anichebe scores at anytime during Portsmouth v Tottenham Hotspur, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.¹

If Everton v Newcastle United finishes 0-0 BGbet will refund all losing correct score bets on that game.¹

Birmingham v Queens Park Rangers, Saturday, Sky Sports 1, 1:00pm

Two of the main contender’s for the Championship crown clash at St. Andrews on Saturday when moneybags QPR visit Birmingham. Many expected QPR to splash the cash this summer after the Formula One tycoons Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone invested in the club. However, their plan for the club is different to the Abramovich style bank roll that has taken place just across London at Stamford Bridge. Despite the many rumoured big name signings all failing to appear, QPR started the new campaign solidly, although they have faltered in recent weeks against Derby and Blackpool at home. Birmingham sit second in the Championship, having started the season strongly but, like QPR have been a bit disappointing in recent weeks. Curiously, like QPR they have also found it tough against Derby and Blackpool in recent weeks. They could go top of the Championship with a win here, and will be backed by a partisan home crowd.

Birmingham are 5/6 to go top with a win at BetWithRed, while another bookmaker make QPR 13/5 to climb into a playoff place.

If Marcus Bent scores at anytime during Birmingham City v Queens Park Rangers, BGbet will refund all losing first goalscorer stakes on the match.¹

Weekend Racing from Newmarket, Live on Channel 4, Saturday

The highlight of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting takes place at 3:50pm on Saturday when the Cambridgeshire Heritage Handicap gets underway. Despite the huge field being very wide open, Swop has emerged as the clear 13/2 favourite with BGbet. The horse is in superb form, having finished no lower than third in all of its five races to date, with two wins in that time as well.

Swops closest challengers are Yadree, a 10/1 shot with VCbet, and Premier Loco, an 11/1 chance at another bookmaker. Yadree is in similar form to the favourite Swop, with two wins in his last five races, and impressive places in the other three. Premier Loco’s recent form has been more erratic with two ninth places and an non finish in three of his last six, although the other three finishes have all been wins.

Last years winning trainer JHM Goodsen has two contenders in this years running, with Tazeez and Virtual both looking to emulate last years winner Pipedreamer, the 5/1 favourite that day. BetWithRed think Virtual has the better chance of the two at 14/1, as Tazeez is considered an outsider at 33/1 at another bookmaker. Winning jockey form two years ago Jamie Spencer saddles Prince Kalamoun this year, and he is in the small group behind the three favourites that VCbet think have an outside chance at 12/1.
