(expired)Strauss Favourite To Replace KP
Andrew Strauss is the 11/10 favourite to be the next England captain, reports bookie Paddy Power.
So often in the running when the England captaincy comes up, Strauss is the favourite to be in charge for the first test when England travel to the West Indies following Kevin Pietersen’s shock resignation today.
However Paddy Power isn’t completely writing off a return for Pietersen who is just 11/8 to win the power struggle and return to the captaincy in time for the First Test.
Amongst the other contenders, the team’s spiritual leader ‘Freddie’ Flintoff is 6/1 whilst a return for the Ashes winning captain of 2005, Michael Vaughan, is 16/1.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “With Flintoff and Vaughan having had their go at leading the team the logical thinking is it will be Strauss’ ‘turn’. However this is England and the ECB and logic rarely applies. As such, you wouldn’t rule out a return for KP, especially with Moores also resigning.”
“Australia remains Evens money favourite for The Ashes for now but punters are already turning away from England this morning and that price may soon shorten.”England Captain for First Test v West Indies
