Spiderman 7/2 To Bag Two Victories Next Year

Monday, September 29th, 2008

After becoming the first man since David Duval to post his first two victories on tour in consecutive starts, Colombia’s Camilo Villegas is making his mark on the US Tour. “Spiderman” bagged his second victory of the four event play-offs in Atlanta with a par three at the first play-off hole, defeating Spain’s Sergio Garcia.

Sky Bet are 7/2 that Villegas notches two or more official PGA victories in 2009 and 33/1 that he lands the US Tour Money list.

With two victories under his belt, Villegas will be targeting a Major win and is 10/1 with Sky Bet to land one of golf’s biggest prizes next year. After performing well at Birkdale this year in the Open Championship, he is a 50/1 shot for the 2009 renewal.

Sandy 5/2 To Skipper 2010 Ryder Cup Team

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Sandy Lyle has confirmed that he would like to captain Europe’s 2010 team and Sky Bet have consequently cut his odds of leading them out at Celtic Manor from 6/1 to 5/2. Colin Montgomerie, who is 20/1 to be appointed captain, is backing Lyle for the job. Market leader, José María Olazábal, is harbouring hopes of playing at the event and Sky Bet have eased his odds of skippering the team from 2/1 to 9/4. Money is still coming in at 100/30 for Welshman, Ian Woosnam, to captain the team on home soil.

Sky Bet’s senior golf compiler, John Rhodes, said, “We’re keen to keep Sandy Lyle onside and with Olazábal hoping to play in the event, we’re happy to lay the favourite at 9/4.”

Mediate 3/1 Favourite To Lead 2010 US Ryder Cup Team

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Sky Bet have installed Rocco Mediate as 3/1 favourite to captain the US Ryder Cup team when the defending champions head to Wales for the 2010 competition. Mark O’Meara is second favourite at 5/1, with Davis Love quoted at 6/1. Olin Browne, Paul Azinger’s vice captain this time round, is priced at 20/1, with Azinger himself also 20/1 for a second term.

José María Olazábal has been installed as Sky Bet’s 1/2 favourite to be Europe’s next skipper, with Welshman Ian Woosnam 7/1 second favourite to lead them into the next competition at Celtic Manor.

Sky Bet’s golf compiler, Andy Thorp, said, “Olazábal looks to be a worthy favourite as there are question marks against most of the other candidates. Sandy Lyle would have been a live runner but for the fact that he walked out of the Open this year. Monty looks more likely to win the captaincy in 2014 when the competition takes place in Scotland. Personally, I would like to see Faldo given another chance but this seems improbable so my other fancy would be Jesper Parnevik, who has a good Ryder Cup record.”

Sky Bet are also offering odds on who will play in the 2010 event and make Rory McIlroy 2/1 to take part. It’s 5/4 for Ross Fisher to play at Celtic Manor and 9/2 for Colin Montgomerie to return to the team. Big hitting JB Holmes, who won 2.5 points in Kentucky, is 11/4 to play for the Americans, with 2007 Masters champion, Zach Johnson, available at 6/4.

Europe are 10/11 favourites to win back the Cup in 2010, with the US priced at 11/10 to defend their title and the tie quoted at 10/1.

8/1 Rory McIIroy To Win An Event In 2008

Monday, September 8th, 2008

After Rory McIlroy’s performance at the weekend in which he almost won his first title on the European Tour at aged just 19, Sky Bet have released prices on whether he will get a win on this years European Tour schedule. With just seven events left on this years schedule McIlroy is 8/1 to win an event and 100/1 to win 2 or more of them.

Sky Bet’s Andy Thorp said “He is not down to play this week and is not guaranteed to start all the remaining events but it is all about how he handles what happened last week. He should have won in regulation time having held a 4 shot lead going into the final round and only needing a par down the last with a wedge in his hand for his 2nd shot. He did seem to cope pretty well but it would be no surprise if it took him a few events to get over it.” Sky Bet are 11/10 for him to play in the 2010 Ryder Cup and 6/1 for him to win a major before the age of 25.”

(expired)Wood 9/1 To Win Stage Two Qualifying

Tuesday, November 3rd, 1908

Sky Bet have issued odds on the second stage of the European Tour Qualifying School, which gets underway this week in Spain. Around 80 golfers will participate at the four courses in the hope of securing one of 35 cards on offer for the 2009 European Tour schedule and Sky Bet make England’s Chris Wood favourite to take top honours. Wood, who finished joint fifth in the Open to win the Silver Medal, topped the board at the Oxfordshire in the first stage of the Qualifying School and is 9/1 to go on to win at Montenmedio and advance to the final stages. The 21 year-old is 7/4 to gain membership to the Tour through the final qualifying stage.

Former number one ranked amateur in the world, Danny Willett, who turned professional earlier this year, is the 12/1 favourite to win the second stage at Sherry Golf Club and 2/1 to gain full card membership.

Sky Bet’s senior golf compiler, John Rhodes said, “Wood and Willett have had plenty of hype around them in their amateur careers, and now that they have turned professional, they seem to be progressing nicely. This is the next hurdle in their goal to win a full time card on the European Tour in 2009 and I fully expect both players to advance comfortably to final stage and gain their cards through final qualifying.”

Wednesday, October 7th, 1908

Sky Bet have installed three-time major winner Padraig Harrington as the 7/1 favourite to win the inaugural ‘Race to Dubai’, which gets underway next month. Lee Westwood is second favourite at 8/1, while Dunhill Links winner, Robert Karlsson, is joint third favourite at 10/1, together with fellow Swede, Henrik Stenson.

Sky Bet’s senior golf compiler, John Rhodes, said: “With Harrington finishing 2nd, 3rd and 1st in the last three European Orders of Merit and with the confidence of winning major championships, he is a solid favourite for the Race to Dubai.”

After clinching the Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday, Robert Karlsson climbed to the top of the European Order of Merit and is now Sky Bet’s 1/2 favourite to top this year’s Money List with just four events remaining. Harrington is 2/1 second favourite, with Westwood quoted at 7/1.

(expired)Sports Betting Preview 20-21 Sep

Saturday, September 19th, 1908

There is another clash of the Premiership challengers on Sunday, as Manchester United visit Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea. Sir Alex will not want to allow a repeat of last weekend’s display at Anfield, as defeat could leave United up to nine points behind the leaders. The Hawthorns will be rocking as West Brom welcome Aston Villa for the first Midlands derby of the season, while Arsenal have their second trip to the North West in a week, as they attempt to repeat their 4-0 win over Blackburn against Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok. The Ryder Cup gets into full swing in Kentucky, and Europe will be looking for another victory against an American team missing Tiger Woods. This weekend’s big race is the Gold Cup at Ayr at 3:30 pm on Saturday, which has a very competitive market developing.

Chelsea v Manchester United, Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 2:00pm

The pre-season title favourites meet for the first time on Sunday following contrasting European results in midweek. United’s difficult start to the season continued on Wednesday when they were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Villareal side. One bright point of the game for United fans was the return of Cristiano Ronaldo following injury, and they could be further strengthened as Dimitar Berbatov is expected to be fit after missing out on Wednesday. Paul Scholes also returns after a suspension, and United will need all these big game players to deliver against a Chelsea side in great form. The Blue’s easily dispatched Bordeaux 4-0 in their opening Champions League game and that came on the back of a 3-1 win against Manchester City last week at the City of Manchester Stadium. Given United’s shaky start this is sure to be a tense game, as they look to avoid Chelsea opening a nine point gap over them so early in the season. (more…)

(expired)Sky Bet: Ryder Cup Specials 19-21 Sep

Thursday, September 17th, 1908

Sky Bet are offering an unrivalled number of markets on this year’s Ryder Cup, with betting available on everything from top points scorer to biggest singles victory margin to Azinger crying on the 18th green should the US be victorious! (10/1)

You can bet on whether or not the opening shot hits the fairway (1/2 hits, 6/4 misses), how many matches will go down the 18th (12 or more 8/11, 11 or under evens), Europe to break their points record of 18.5 (20/1) and even on which hole the Ryder Cup will be won.

Sky Bet remain a standout 13/10 on the US, with Europe quoted at 8/11 for a fourth consecutive win and the tie priced at 12/1.

Sky Bet’s senior golf compiler John Rhodes said, “Europe have won the previous three Ryder Cups, the last two being landslide victories. I’m confident that their strong team unity and in-form players, who performed well in Germany last week, will see them triumph again. It seems to me that the only way the US will win is by Azinger whipping up the home crowd but their players will need more than that to stop Europe landing a fourth consecutive victory.”

As well as boasting an unparalleled range of Ryder Cup specials, Sky Bet are also offering customers who have a Sky Sports subscription the opportunity to watch all the action from Valhalla for free, live on their PC.
