Lewis Hamilton is 7/4 with bookie Paddy Power to retain his World Championship next year and 11/2 to repeat his heart stopping dramatics and leave victory until the very last race.
Hamilton’s odds of adding the BBC Sports Personality crown to his World Championship have been cut from 11/10 to 1/2 by Paddy Power who predict that despite his unconvincing manner of victory, the timing of the Championship may give him an edge of the Olympic Champions of team GB.
The bookie has also released odds on Hamilton succeeding in doing what he almost managed today - throwing away the title. He is 12/1 to be leading into the last race and to lose the Championship.
Paddy Power said, “the general consensus was that it was going to be a boring last race with Hamilton coasting to the title, he was 1/8 going into today’s race - fair play to Lewis, he certainly knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats!” (more…)

Weekend Football
Everton v Fulham, Saturday, Sky Sports 1, 12:45pm
Fulham face Everton on Saturday afternoon in a game that sees Andy Johnson return to Goodison Park for the first time since his summer move. Both teams entered the new season with plenty of hope and ambition, but both have also had disappointing starts to the season. Prior to the midweek games neither had won in the last five games, leaving both in the bottom half of the Premiership. However both will be looking to use the momentum gained from the respective wins against Wigan and Bolton. Fulham beat Wigan 2-0 at Craven Cottage, with Johnson scoring twice, the first being the 100th goal of his career. Everton beat Bolton 1-0 at the Reebok thanks to Marouane Fellaini’s 90th minute goal. A win would put either side firmly into the top half of the league, and rekindle summer ambitions. (more…)
The widely criticised Stanford Super Series reaches its climax on Saturday and those interested in cricket spread betting could be in for a real treat if Pietersen and his men go all out for victory. Sporting Index are offering new spread accounts the chance to win £100 if KP goes on to be England’s top scorer in the match. They have a fair shout and buyers of his match performance (where you are awarded a point per run, 10 per catch, 20 per wicket and 25 per stumping) will be pleased to hear that the captain is England’s top overall scorer in Twenty20 with 412 runs. Sellers of his performance on the spreads will be even more worried that KP is the joint top individual innings scorer for England, along with Paul Collingwood with 79 runs, and he has taken the most catches for the side (7).
No England player has ever scored a century for the national side at Twenty20 and only eight 50’s had been made before the start of the Stanford Tournament. With performance spread betting in cricket, it often pays to side with the bowlers and buyers of Paul Collingwood performance have a lot to cheer about. Colly now tops England’s T20 bowlers, with 15 wickets from 16 matches, but alongside this, his 339 runs from 15 innings also show that he is one to keep firmly on the right side of.
The weekend Premier League action kicks off with the lunchtime fixture between Everton and Fulham at Goodison Park. The Toffees were formidable at home last season and although Sporting Index still have them as their supremacy favourites (spread 0.5-0.7), sellers will be alarmed that they are the only team yet to win at home this season. However, buyers also have reason to be cheerful, as they face Fulham, a side who have only earned one point away from home so far, but also a side they have never lost to at home in the league. In all 14 Premier League games between these two teams, the home side has been victorious in all of them, so if that statistic is to be preserved, the buyers will be coming out in their droves to take on the Sporting Index traders. Sky Bet have produced over 50 markets on this weekend’s season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix and quote 6/5 for title favourite Lewis Hamilton to out-qualify his rival Felipe Massa (8/13) on Saturday.
Hamilton only needs to cross the line in fifth place to become the youngest world champion in F1 history. The Brit is 14/1 to do the minimum to keep his title hopes alive by coming 5th. He is 7/4 to win, 7/2 to be runner-up and 11/4 to finish third. Massa, needs to come first or second at Interlagos to contend for the title and is 11/8 favourite to win the race. 2/1 is on offer for Massa to win the race but for Hamilton to take the Championship.
In Brazil last year, Hamilton blew his seven-point lead in the standings after suffering a gearbox problem at the start of the race. Sky Bet offer 3/1 for Hamilton to suffer a similar disaster by not finishing in the points. It’s 10/1 for him to retire on the first lap and 20/1 that he is black flagged.
Kimi Raikkonen has vowed to do all he can to help team-mate Felipe Massa succeed him as world champion. It’s 16/1 for the reigning champion to collide with Hamilton during the race. 12/1 is quoted for Hamilton to crash with his former team-mate, Fernando Alonso.
Alonso is 6/4 favourite in the race betting without the ‘Big Four’, having finished best of the rest in the last three Grands Prix.
Hamilton is 10/1 to finish in the fifth place that would land him his first Formula One championship, whilst he’s 7/4 to take the chequered flag and take the title in style with a win.
Paddy Power are also offering 21/10 that Massa does all he can in his quest by winning the race but that it will ultimately prove futile as Hamilton take the title. It’s 7/2 that Hamilton shadows Massa round the Interlagos circuit for a Massa-Hamilton 1-2 whilst it’s 10/1 that Massa’s team mate and potential henchman Kimi Raikkonen takes Hamilton out of the race.
Heading to Brazil Hamilton is 5/4 to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, odds that will only shorten if he grabs the title.
Paddy Power, said: “Hamilton finds himself in the same position as last year but this time punters are backing him to do the job, with betting on Massa winning the race but Hamilton taking the title proving especially popular.”
Sky Bet are offering a vast array of markets ahead of Sunday’s Formula One season finale in São Paulo, with betting available on everything from fastest qualifier and race winner to odds on which driver will make the first pit stop and who will lead the most laps.
Lewis Hamilton is 1/7 to win his maiden World Championship while local hero, Felipe Massa, who needs to come first or second at Interlagos to keep his title hopes alive, is quoted at 4/1.
Hamilton goes into the weekend’s last Grand Prix with a seven-point lead in the standings and Sky Bet offer 9/4 for him to win the Drivers’ Championship by a margin of ten points or more. Massa is quoted at 12/1 to win by a point and 33/1 is quoted for the title to be decided on count-back.
In a match bet between Hamilton and Massa, the Brit is 11/8 to lead more laps than Massa (8/15). British drivers are 11/10 to score more points in total in Interlagos than the Brazilians (8/11), with the tie quoted at 14/1.
Sky Bet are also offering odds on which driver will make the first pit stop in Brazil and make Fernando Alonso 2/1 favourite. Felipe Massa is 5/2 to enter the pits first on Sunday, with Lewis Hamilton quoted at 3/1.
With the title battle once again going down to the wire this year, the possibility of a collision cannot be ruled out and Sky Bet quote 16/1 for Hamilton and Massa to crash, 16/1 for the Brit to collide with reigning champion Kimi Raikkonen and 12/1 for him to crash with former team-mate, Fernando Alonso.
Wet conditions are anticipated, which could favour Hamilton, who relishes driving in the rain and he is 7/4 to win the race. 11/10 is quoted for the safety car to come out.
The pole sitter has gone on to win the race seven times this season. Hamilton is 2/7 to qualify on the front row (5/2 not to have a front-row start) and 6/5 to out-qualify his title rival, Felipe Massa (8/13). Hamilton is 9/1 to pull off a race ‘hat-trick’ by starting on pole, winning the race and recording the fastest lap.
Sunday brought more success for British sportsmen Lewis Hamilton and Andy Murray, with victories in Shanghai and Madrid respectively and Sky Bet have now opened a book on which of the two young Brits will record more wins in 2009.
2008 has seen Murray rise to 4th in the world rankings and reach his first Grand Slam final and the Scot is 12/5 to win more ATP Tour titles than Lewis Hamilton wins Grands Prix. The McLaren driver has won five races so far this season and is 8/15 favourite to gain more victories on the circuit than Murray does on the ATP tour. The tie is priced at 5/1.
Hamilton is 5/4 favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in December, with Murray quoted at 20/1.
Sky Bet have produced a wide range of additional specials on how Andy Murray will fare in 2009. The British number one is 25/1 to take four or more Masters Series titles, 5/1 to win three and 7/2 to win none.
Betting is also available on which 2009 Masters Series title he will clinch first and Sky Bet make Indian Wells 7/2 favourite, followed by the Miami Masters (4/1).
Murray is 9/2 to make it three Masters titles in a row with victory in Paris next month. He is 9/2 third favourite behind Rafael Nadal (7/4) and Roger Federer (7/4) to win the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.
Currently ranked fourth in the world, Murray is 7/1 to win the 2009 ATP race and it’s 6/4 for him to win over 4.5 ATP Tour titles next year (1/2 under 4.5). 5/2 is on offer for Murray to win a Grand Slam in 2009 while it’s 7/2 for him never to win a Grand Slam.
Lewis Hamilton has got off to a great start in China, clocking the fastest time in both opening practice sessions and Sky Bet make the Brit 12/5 to win from pole position on Sunday. The pole sitter has gone on to win the race seven times already this season. Hamilton is 4/11 to qualify on the front row in Shanghai (2/1 not to have a front-row start) and 8/15 to out-qualify his main title rival, Felipe Massa (11/8). Sky Bet have cut Hamilton’s odds of winning in China from 7/4 to 6/4 and he is 11/2 to pull off a race ‘hat-trick’ by starting on pole, winning the race and recording the fastest lap.
Hamilton goes into this weekend’s penultimate GP with a five point lead in the Drivers’ Championship standings and can take the title in China if he scores six points more than Felipe Massa. Sky Bet now make the Englishman 9/2 to clinch the title on Sunday. It’s 8/13 for the Brit to seal victory in the last race in Brazil, 5/2 for Massa to win the Championship on home soil in São Paulo and 20/1 for Robert Kubica, currently trailing Hamilton by 12 points, to pull off a shock title victory in Brazil.
After winning the last two Grands Prix, Fernando Alonso is even money favourite to win the Chinese race in the betting without the ‘big 6′ drivers.
We’re back to Premier League action this weekend which will be a relief to the majority of spread punters. The season is beginning to take shape and Chelsea are still the hot favourites for the title in Sporting Index’s season points table. The Big Four all look to hold strong chances this weekend and the Sporting Index traders will have all of them as strong supremacy favourites. However, those punters piling in on all of the Big Four will be concerned to hear that since the start of the 2003/04 season, all four of them have been victorious in just 21 of 197 rounds of football (barely overt over 10%).
Sports betting undoubtedly makes life more interesting when the action isn’t the most thrilling, and this weekend therefore looks like the perfect opportunity to have a spread bet. We’ll start with Chelsea’s trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday lunchtime and buyers of the Blues’ supremacy at around 0.8 will be pleased that Scolari’s side have now won six in a row away from home. This is only the ninth time this has happened since the Premier League began and they have also only lost two of 34 games played away at non-Big Four sides. However, sellers of Chelsea supremacy should be aware that Boro have won two of the last three between these two at the Riverside and they have also only lost two of their last 12 games at home against the Big Four. Their opponents on Saturday are the only team with a better record against the top four (lost none in last 12).
