The first test between England and South Africa is already underway, but there are still some interesting stats for spread bettors to get their teeth into. South Africa are the 51-55 to England’s 38-42 favourites in the Sporting Index series win index (where you are awarded 25 points per victory and 10 per draw), but they haven’t won a test series on English soil since 1965. The last series back in 2003 saw some heavy wins, perfect spread betting punters who have a strong view on the outcome this time round. However, those who fancy one side in the series win index should be aware that in the post-Apartheid era each side has won two of the six series, with the other two being drawn. (more…)

This weekend marks the height of the British summer, as Lewis Hamilton and the Formula One circus visits Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, while Wimbledon draws to a close with the finals weekend. Another of the summer’s big events starts in Brittany on Saturday, as the rider’s line up for the 105th Tour de France, and this weekend’s big race is the Old Newton Cup from Haydock. (more…)

We’ve got a couple of weeks break now before everyone starts talking about the football season again. The Sporting Index traders will have the season points markets up soon, so focus must turn to some of the more traditional British summer sports this week.

There have already been a number of upsets at Wimbledon which will have undoubtedly scuppered many punters’ bets. However, at the time of writing, those spread bettors amongst you who have bought Federer and Nadal in the men’s singles tournament index will be sitting pretty and hoping for a repeat of the last two finals. Federer is attempting to become the first player since William Renshaw in 1886 to win six consecutive men’s singles titles at Wimbledon and he has made it to the semi finals in typically clinical fashion; failing to concede a set in his opening five games. If the best two players in the tournament, as expected, make it to Sunday’s final, then first set games punters are going to have the tricky decision whether to buy or sell the spread. Two years ago, the Swiss maestro steamed ahead with a 6-0 opening set win, which will obviously please sellers. However, last year he just got through a tense first-set tie-break, before winning the epic 5-set contest. (more…)
