(expired)Weekend Betting Preview 28-29 June

Saturday, June 27th, 1908

After 30 games over 3 weeks, Euro 2008 reaches its climax on Sunday as Germany take on Spain in Vienna at 7:45pm. Despite being labelled a ‘poor’ German team by many pundits, they have, as they did in 2002 and 2006, overcome these criticisms to show you can never write of the Germans. Nothing illustrated this more than their 3-2 semi final win over Turkey on Wednesday, as they scored three goals in ten minutes to break a heroic Turkish side which had just 13 available players. As always Spain entered the competition with great expectations, but this time there was also a real belief amongst both the squad and the fans that this side had the resilience needed to win a major tournament. So far that believe has been proved through impressive results and performances against tough sides like Italy and Russia, but can they finally prove they can win when the pressure is on? (more…)

(expired)Sporting Index: Spread Betting Preview 28-29 June

Friday, June 26th, 1908

Euro 2008 has nearly reached its conclusion and on Sunday night the 13th European Football Champions will be crowned in Vienna. There have been some fantastic games at this year’s tournament and at the time of writing either Spain or Russia will be taking on Germany in the final. Sellers of total goals at 2 will be slightly worried after Germany’s thrilling 3-2 semi-final win against the Turks made it two five-goal games in a row for Joachim Low’s side. They will also be concerned that only one final (Euro 2004 between Greece and Portugal) has had one solitary goal and there has never been a goal-less final in the 12 tournaments. Interestingly for goals punters; prior to the last competition in Portugal, the previous five finals had seen exactly two goals in regular time (three were settled with 2-0 victories, whilst two had to go to extra-time after 1-1 draws). (expired)Euro 2008 Semi-Finals Betting Preview 25-26 June

Wednesday, June 24th, 1908

Germany v Turkey – Wednesday, k/o 19:45pm. Live on BBC1

Tournament favourites Germany take on a depleted Turkey team in Basel on Wednesday in the first semi final. Turkey have just 13 outfield players available for the game due to injury and suspension, and face the prospect of using third choice keeper Tolgan Zengin as an emergency centre back or midfielder. Their latest setback came on Monday when influential striker Nihat Kahveci, who scored two late goals in the final group game against the Czech’s to seal qualification, was ruled out of the tournament with a thigh strain. However, Turkey overcame similar problems to beat Croatia on penalties in the quarter finals, but bookings and injuries picked up in that game mean they are faced with an even bigger task. (more…)
