Ireland Vs England? Bookies Say Four More Years!
Following recent comments from FAI Chief Executive, John Delaney, that we are “owed” a soccer match against England, bookies Paddy Power have released betting on when this ultimate grudge fixture will take place. Memories of Bloody Sunday make a Croke Park meeting for the two sides unlikely at best which is reflected in Paddy Power’s odds of 20/1.
With the newly developed Lansdowne Stadium set to open its gates for the first time in August 2010 and qualifiers for the Euro 2012 Championships beginning the following month, Paddy Power make a 2010 meeting much more likely at 7/4 with 2011 a slightly bigger 10/3 shot. However, the bookies make an encounter in 2012 or later their odds-on 10/11 favourite.
Paddy Power said “The likelihood of a soccer international against England taking place in Croke Park is just about as likely as Roy Keane turning up as their captain on the day but surprisingly some punters are nibbling at the 20/1 available”IRELAND VS ENGLAND
