Following recent international media coverage of Paddy Power’s negotiations with IMG to sponsor Tiger Woods, the company confirms that its initial offer covering a five year period for a total potential sponsorship of $75 million has been rejected by IMG. Paddy Power remains keen to work with Tiger Woods, and will re-engage with IMG. An enhanced offer will be made, the details of which will remain confidential.
Teenage golf sensation Matteo Manassero has confirmed that he will turn professional in May and Sky Bet have produced a number of specials bets on how the young Italian will fare in 2010.
Manassero will become the youngest ever player in the Masters next month and is 200/1 to land the green jacket, and more realistically 11/4 to make the 36-hole cut (1/4 to miss the cut).
He will make his professional debut at the Italian Open in Turin on May 6-9 and is a 40/1 chance to land his national championship, backed by a partisan crowd.
8/1 is on offer for Manassero to win on the European Tour this year and he is 33/1 to win the Open while still a teenager.
Sky Bet’s golf betting spokesman John Rhodes said: “Matteo rose to prominence last year by becoming the youngest ever player to win the British Amateur title and then remarkably finished 13th in the Open itself. We knew he would be a superstar in the making, and his results prove that already. He boasts six professional events and four top-30 finishes at just 16-years-old, when most of his peers are sat at home doing their homework!” (more…)
After incredible back-to-back wins on the LPGA Tour, Sky Bet have installed Ai Miyazato as the new 5/2 favourite to claim the 2010 Money List.
The diminutive Japanese star looks likely to beat last year’s third position when she finished behind Jiyai Shin and Lorena Ochoa, who are 5/1 and 6/1 respectively in the 2010 Money List betting.
Miyazato looks set for a remarkable 2010 and Sky Bet make her a 4/1 chance to win a major this year and 12/1 to win six or more official LPGA Events in 2010.
Sky Bet’s golf betting spokesman John Rhodes said: “With Ai starting the season so well, and now with the monkey off her back of being the perennial bridesmaid in big events, the 2010 Money List title looks well within her grasp. World Number one Lorena Ochoa hasn’t dominated the tour like she did in 2008, and this year’s tour looks far more competitive than in past seasons.” (more…)
Following Ian Poulter’s victory in the WGC-Accenture Match Play, Sky Bet are offering 6/1 for the Englishman to win one of the four majors in 2010. The victory sees Poulter move up to fifth in the world rankings and it’s 100/30 for Poulter to be the leading ranked Englishman in 2010 (8/13 Westwood, 100/30 Casey, 33/1 Donald and 33/1 Fisher).
Poulter, who has been quoted in the past as saying he is the only serious challenger to the world No 1 spot when playing at his best, is 11/2 to finish 2010 as the world No 2.
Sky Bet’s golf betting spokesman Andy Thorpe said: “Poulter has stepped up to the next level in winning a WGC event and must surely now join that group of players including Casey and Westwood whose next aim is to win a major championship.” (more…)
Following Tiger’s press conference yesterday, where the world number one was non-committal about his return to professional golf, bookies Paddy Power have slashed the odds on Tiger NOT winning a major golf championship in 2010 from 3/1 to 11/10. This is shortest price Tiger has been to remain major-less since his first major triumph back in 1997.
Paddy Power are also offering odds on which tournament signals his return to the game. Next month’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, which Tiger won last year, is the 5/4 favourite with the US Masters a seemingly less likely 8/1 shot.
Paddy Power said “Tiger didn’t even hint at when he plans to return to the game but with a Ryder Cup around the corner and the Golden Bears record firmly in his sights, it’s a safe bet we’ll be seeing him in action sooner rather than later” (more…)
Money is continuing to come in for Steve Stricker in all golf betting markets following his victory in the Northern Trust Open which saw him depose Phil Mickelson as world number two.
Sky Bet have cut Stricker to 6/5 (from 11/8) to make the cut in all four majors this year and he is 28/1 (from 50/1) to win the Open and 18/1 (from 33/1) in the US Masters betting without Tiger Woods.
Stricker won three American PGA Tour titles last year and has taken his good form into 2010 with a top-ten finish in the season-opening SBS Championship and a third place in the Sony Open. SkyBet have slashed him to 11/1 (from 28/1) to be the next maiden major winner and he now heads the market together with Rory McIlroy.
Sky Bet’s golf betting expert Andy Thorp said: “In Tiger’s absence, Stricker is currently the number one player in the world and punters are backing him to break his major duck this year.” (more…)
Miguel Angel Jimenez was matched at an in-running high of 170 to win the Dubai Desert Classic which he landed after a four-hole playoff with Lee Westwood.
The English world no.4 was matched at a low of 1.09 for the win.
Westwood remains the 4.5 favourite to win the 2010 Race To Dubai. Jimenez can be backed at 55.
After Robert Karlsson’s 3 shot win in the Qatar Masters on Sunday, Sky Bet have slashed the Swede’s odds for the 2010 Race to Dubai to 10/1 from 28/1. The win sees the Swede victorious again, after last season was cut short by an eye injury and the 40 year old will be looking to get back to the form that saw him win the 2008 European order of Merit.
Karlsson is now 40/1 (from 50/1) to claim the Open Championship at St Andrews, and also 40/1 (from 50/1) in the betting without Tiger Woods for the US Masters, where his best finish is 8th.
Sky Bet’s golf betting expert John Rhodes said: “The manner of Karlsson’s win over some very solid players like Westwood, Quiros and Casey, and his closing 7 under par score, should see the giant Swede move onto better things this year.” (more…)
After staggering back-to-back wins in his native South Africa, at a stunning combined 43 under par, Charl Schwartzel is golf’s latest big story and Sky Bet make him a 25/1 chance to win his maiden major in 2010.
He is now a 12-1 shot with Sky Bet to win the 2010 Race to Dubai and is currently in first place with nearly half a million euros banked.
With two European Tour titles already under his belt, Schwartzel is 6/4 to win a third trophy in Europe this season and 10-1 to land four or more titles.
Sky Bet’s golf betting spokesman John Rhodes said: “Schwartzel is now safely tucked inside the top 50 in the world and will be looking to emulate Ernie Els or Retief Goosen, as he bids to raise his worldwide profile.” (more…)
