Amir Khan is 1/4 favourite with online betting company Sky Bet to avenge his defeat to Lamont Peterson in Las Vegas on May 19.
Peterson won the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles from the Bolton fighter in a controversial points decision in December in Washington, with Khan twice deducted a point by the referee.
Khan appealed against the outcome and the WBA confirmed in January that they wanted their new champion to defend the belt against the Brit. After initially rejecting the WBA ruling with a written appeal, Peterson has now agreed to the bout.
The American is 3/1 in Sky Bet’s boxing betting to record another victory over Khan and 6/1 to win on points, but Sky Bet boxing trader Simon McMinn feels Khan will not make the same mistakes again.
He said: “Khan probably got a bit over-confident in the first fight once he realised Peterson didn’t possess the power to knock him out.
“But Khan’s coach Freddie Roach is one of the best in the sport and won’t let him make the same mistakes twice.”
He added: “Khan is the better fighter in every area and it would be a surprise if he does not avenge the defeat.”
The Hayemaker is the 1/10 red-hot favourite with bookmaker Paddy Power to silence his bitter rival Audley Harrison in the second defence of his WBA Heavyweight title at Manchester’s MEN Arena on November 13.
The scheduled bout which was today confirmed by David Haye is being touted as the biggest ‘Battle of Britain’ since Lennox Lewis met Frank Bruno in 1993.
So confident are Paddy Power in Haye’s promise to demolish Harrison that they’re offering just 1/8 that the fight will not go the distance. Furthermore Haye is just 1/3 to win with a KO or technical knockout.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: “It’ll be the ultimate ‘Battle of Britain’ and the fight everyone will be looking forward to tuning into but judging by the odds it’ll take a small miracle for Harrison to beat the defending champ!” (more…)
Following the news that David Haye will make the second defence of his WBA heavyweight title against Audley Harrison at Manchester’s MEN Arena on November 13th, Sky Bet make the Hayemaker 1/8 to overcome A-Force (5/1 Harrison and 33/1 Draw) and 2/5 to win inside the 12 round distance.
While Harrison’s credentials are questionable after losing to Danny Williams, Dominick Guinn, Michael Sprott and Martin Rogan, the 38-year-old bounced back to claim the Heavyweight Prizefighter title and then the European title in a re-match against Sprott. It’s 11/2 for Harrison to beat Haye inside the distance and 14/1 to win on points.
Sky Bet’s Tim Reynolds said: “Haye shouldn’t have any problems defending his WBA heavyweight title but he will have to be careful he isn’t caught by a big left hand from Harrison, which saw the 38-year-old claim the European title.” (more…)
They’ve only been married a little over six months but Paddy Power are betting Katie Price and her new hubby Alex Reid’s days as husband and wife could be numbered.
After new pictures emerged in the tabloids of Katie looking rather cosy with boxing champ Amir Khan Paddy Power are quoting odds of 11/10 that Jordan and Alex will call it a day before the year is out.
Even if Jordan and her cage fighter hubby make it past Christmas the odds on the marriage lasting anything beyond one or two years don’t look too good. Paddy Power are betting 9/4 the pair will split within the first year and 2/1 they’ll deliver a knock out blow to their nuptials in the next eighteen months.
Love struck Alex will no doubt want to fight to save his marriage but despite weighing in over 44lbs heavier than Light Welterweight Amir he’s 10/1 with Paddy Power to overcome the 23 year-old champ in a mythical boxing match!
The odds on Jordan hooking up with Amir Khan and dating the Olympic champ next is 8/1 while Paddy Power think it’s far more likely she may reconcile with first hubby Peter Andre at 7/2. Former love Dane Bowers is 5/1 to date the glamour model turned businesswoman next while Prince William is the royal rank outsider at 500/1.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: “Nothing is straight forward in the life of Katie Price. The latest pictures might be innocent enough but with rumours of trouble already brewing in the pairs’ marriage they’re unlikely to help matters. It was pictures like these which proved too much for first hubby Peter Andre.” (more…)
The decision on whether or not women’s boxing will be allowed in the 2012 Olympics is expected to be made this week and the odds are looking good with Paddy Power quoting 1/10 that the girls will get the go ahead for London.
That will leave Ireland in an excellent position to bring home gold at the 2012 games with World Champion Katie Taylor a virtual shoo-in to win a gold medal at odds of 1/8.
Bookies Paddy Power are quoting 4/7 that Taylor will bring home Ireland’s only gold medal in three years time. Separately, Olympic silver medallist Kenny Egan is 20/1 to win gold while it’s 25/1 that the pair pull off a double gold victory.
Paddy Power said: “It’s looking good for the girls to get the go ahead and it’s great Katie Taylor will get a chance to shine on the biggest stage. Come to think of it it’s great for Ireland too that we already look to have a gold medal in the bag!” (more…)
Two of Ireland’s top amateur boxers have progressed to the final of the European Championships in Moscow.
Olympic bronze medalist Paddy Barnes and Darren O’Neill gave impressive performances in their semi final bouts and will now be boxing for gold on Saturday.
Paddy Power make Belfast man Barnes just 8/11 to bring home gold while O’Neill is 9/4. Olympic silver medalist Kenneth Egan narrowly missed out on a place in the final to France’s Abdelkader Bouhenia. The end result was 11-9. The odds on both of the remaining Irish boxers bringing home a gold medal are 9/2.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “What the lads have achieved and continue to achieve in Moscow is fantastic. To have five reach the semi’s and two make the final is just incredible and we wish them all the best on Saturday.” (more…)
Kevin Mitchell’s odds of taking the interim WBO lightweight title at Upton Park on Saturday have been cut to 8/13 (from 4/6) following sustained support for the ‘Dagenham Destroyer’.
The 25-year-old unbeaten East Londoner faces hard-hitting title-holder Michael Katsidis, who is 5/4 to defend his title, while a drawn fight is a 33/1 chance.
The fight has been backed to go to the scorecards, with Mitchell, who has 23 stoppages in his 31 victories, quoted at 2/1 to win on points and Katsidis a 5/1 chance. It’s 5/2 that the judges return a unanimous decision in favour of the local fighter and 6/4 is available for Mitchell to send the Australian to the canvas.
Katsidis boasts a 26-2 record, including 21 KO’s and is 15/2 for a knockout victory over the Brit.
Sky Bet’s Helen Jacob said: “Hammers fan Mitchell has said it is his dream to fight at Upton Park and he is being well backed to seal a memorable victory in front of a capacity home crowd.” (more…)
Amir Khan is coming in for overwhelming patriotic support ahead of his debut fight in America on Saturday night. The Bolton boxer, who boasts 16 knockouts in his 22-1 professional record, has been heavily backed to KO former IBF world light-welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in his home town of New York, forcing Sky Bet to slash the odds to 7/2 (from 15/2).
While motor-mouth Malignaggi remains friendless in the betting, Khan has been backed down to 11/10 (from 2/1) to win by any method in rounds 1-12 and is 1/6 (from 1/5) for outright victory.
Khan will be desperate to put in a show at Madison Square Garden in a bid to install himself as a household name across the Atlantic and after he annihilated Dmitry Salita with a stunning first-round knockout last December, he has been well backed to wrap up this fight in the opening round, with Sky Bet cutting the odds to 16/1 from 33/1.
On the same day that Khan takes on Malignaggi in New York, Kevin Mitchell fights Michael Katsidis at Upton Park and Sky Bet go 11/10 that both Brits emerge triumphant, while it’s 13/2 that they both seal victory within rounds 1-12.
Sky Bet make Khan 1/4 favourite to beat Mitchell (11/4, draw 33/1) should the pair face each other this year.
Sky Bet’s boxing betting spokesman Scott Springgay said: “On the face of it, Maglinaggi should be a perfect opponent for Khan as he has a low knockout record and shouldn’t give Khan’s questionable chin a tough test but this is the best fighter Khan has fought and does pose a danger.
“I would be surprised if this fight doesn’t go the distance but Khan will have to look good to build his reputation in front of the American audience who have heard a lot of talk from Khan but not seen much action yet.” (more…)
Money is flooding in on Floyd Mayweather Jnr to maintain his undefeated record in Las Vegas on Saturday by beating WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley on points. Sky Bet have been forced to cut the odds of ‘Money’ recording a points victory from opening odds of 7/4 to 1/2. It’s 12/1 that Mayweather wins by a clean knockout.
Underdog Mosley has been friendless in the betting at 3/1 to inflict a first defeat on Mayweather (1/4, draw 33/1) at the MGM Grand.
Sky Bet’s boxing betting expert Scott Springgay said: “Normally when a fight goes to points it’s a good result for us but not this time as everyone has backed Mayweather to win on points, so we’re cheering on either a knockout victory for Mayweather or Mosley to cause an upset.”
Mayweather was set to fight Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao before a blood-testing row halted negotiations and Sky Bet make him 5/6 narrow favourite to beat Pac-Man (even money) should the superfight go ahead this year. (more…)
