Bangladesh v England: Test Series – Kevin Pietersen Betting Specials

Once again, Kevin Pietersen failed to make any impact for England in what was the final warm-up match ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Pietersen, who has only scored 49 runs in his six previous innings on tour, could only manage to make 20 before being bowled by Mohammad Ashraful.

Sky Bet are offering a number of specials for KP ahead of the first Test including 2/1 that he makes 50 runs in his first innings (4/11 he gets out for less than 50). It’s 12/1 he gets out for a duck and 11/2 that he is dropped for either Test.

Pietersen, who has a Test average of 48.24, is 5/1 to put his torrid start to the tour behind him by scoring a century in England’s first innings on Friday.

Sky Bet’s cricket betting spokesman Tim Reynolds said: “Pietersen is a world-class batsman and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Hampshire man silence all his critics and score a century in his next innings.”

Who Will Be The Next Great Britain Davis Cup Captain? Greg Rusedski Odds-On Favourite

Following another disaster defeat for the GB Davis Cup team, this time to Lithuania, the pressure on John Lloyd to be replaced is greater than ever. Paddy Power has Greg Rusedski as the 4/6 odds on favourite to be named the next captain followed closely by the nation’s favourite Tim Henman at 6/4.

The GB team lost to a team that has one of the smallest budgets in world tennis and more questions are being asked about the LTA system that has a reported £40m per year to spend. Whilst both Rusedski and Henman seem the obvious names, high profile coaches Paul Annocone and Mark Petchy at 4/1 and 12/1 respectively. There could also be a few names like Pat Cash at 20/1 and Super Brat John McEnroe at 125/1 that would certainly ruffle a few feathers in the LTA.

Roberto Coladangelo spokesman for Paddy Power said, “In terms of competing in the Davis Cup GB tennis is at an all time low. If the LTA do take the decision to appoint a new captain it looks like either Greg or Tim will be getting the call. Although I am sure fans would love to see a big name like Cash or Becker come in and sort this mess out.”

Paddy Power Imperial Cup At Sandown – Updated Betting Preview, Hunterview New Favourite 13 Mar 2010

Hunterview new favourite with Paddy after some lumpy enough bets

Champion trainer Paul Nicholls intends running Pepe Simo in Saturday’s Paddy Power Imperial Cup at Sandown as he bids to win the 70,000 event for the first time. The six-year-old, who could be joined by stable companion Pistolet Noir, is 7-1 co second favourite with Paddy Power for Saturday’s feature and was considered good enough by the Somerset handler to last time line up in the Grade 1 Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day in which he finished fifth behind Champion Hurdle contender Go Native. Pepe Simo also holds entries in both the Spinal Research Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and the Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle at next week’s Cheltenham Festival.

Nicholls said: “Pepe Simo is a definite runner in the Paddy Power Imperial Cup and we have been waiting for better ground for him, but we’ve not made up our minds yet about Pistolet Noir’s participation.”

“The ground was too soft for Pepe Simo in the Christmas Hurdle. I’m not thinking any further than the weekend for him but Cheltenham could be a possible as well. We’ll confirm him for both races at Cheltenham and decide later and I don’t know at the moment which I prefer.!

Asked if he thought Pepe Simo’s handicap mark of 140 was a fair one, the trainer quipped: “It would be better if it was 130 again I don’t know and I’ll tell you after Saturday!”

Pepe Simo is a a 16-1 shot with Paddy for the County Hurdle and a 33-1 chance for the Spinal Research Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, while Pistolet Noir, entered in both the Fred Winter Juvenile Novices’ Handicap Hurdle and the JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, is available at 20-1 for the Paddy Power Imperial Cup with the bookie. A win for either of Nicholls’ possible duo will allow them to have a crack at a £75,000 bonus from Paddy Power to the connections of the winner of this race should the same horse go on to win any race at the 2010 Festival Meeting at Cheltenham from March 16th-19th, 2010. This will be distributed as follows: £50,000 to the winning owner, £15,000 to the winning trainer and £10,000 to the winning stable.

So far David Pipe and his father Martin are the only trainers to have pulled off the Paddy Power Imperial Cup-Festival race double, scooping the additional pot in the process. Martin managed it twice courtesy of Olympian (1993) and Blowing Wind five years’ later. The former went on to win the Coral Cup, while Blowing Wind landed the Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle. David emulated his dad in 2007 with Gaspara, who later was an easy five length winner of the Fred Winter Juvenile Novices’ Handicap Hurdle in the colours of a certain Mr M C Pipe! In 2008 he again won the Paddy Power Imperial Cup with Ashkazar, who was three and a half lengths too powerful for Fredensborg under an inspired Timmy Murphy ride, but the winner was unable to cope with Crack Away Jack in the Fred Winter in which he went down by two and a half lengths. Last year David again came close to landing the Paddy Power Imperial Cup when Seven Is My Number found only Dave’s Dream too good. This year David has entered Hunterview and Salut Flo and the former was this morning cut into 11-2 favourite (from 7-1 co second favourite) by Paddy.

Paddy Power himself said: “Hunterview was the one punters came for when we first priced up and we’ve seen a few lumpy enough bets on him today. It’s a difficult race to assess but if the support continues and the race were to cut up, it wouldn’t be impossible that he went off at 2-1, now that would be an imperious gamble!”

Manchester United v AC Milan: Champions League Round Of 16 Second Leg Betting Preview 10 Mar 2010

Manchester United will be boosted by the news that their star striker Wayne Rooney is fit to play in tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 second leg tie against AC Milan. Rooney, who has scored a total of eight headed goal in his last nine matches, is 4/1 with Sky Bet to score with his head tomorrow. It’s 10/11 for Rooney to score in 90 minutes and 9/2 that he scores another brace.

Confirmation of Rooney’s fitness may stem the support for the visitors, who have been trimmed to 9/2 (from 5/1) following substantial support. United, who carry a goal lead into the second leg, are 8/15 to win in 90 minutes and 1/14 to qualify.

David Beckham is expected to start for Milan and play at Old Trafford for the first time since he left for Real Madrid in 2003. It’s 5/1 for the former Manchester United star to score at Old Trafford and 20/1 he scores direct from a free kick.

Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Tim Reynolds said: “United have never been eliminated in Europe after winning an away first leg and with Rooney declared fit, it would be a massive surprise if the Premier League defending champions didn’t progress through to the quarter-finals.”

Rafa Benitez Odds-On To Not Be Manager Of Liverpool By The Start Of The 2010-11 Season

Rafa Benitez was at a loss to explain Liverpool’s dismal display in their 1-0 defeat to Wigan on Monday and Sky Bet now make the Spaniard an odds-on chance to leave Anfield by the start of next season.

After the Reds missed the chance to go fourth, the patience of the Anfield faithful may not last much longer and Sky Bet make Benitez 4/7 to leave the club before August 14 (5/4 still to be manager).

Sixth-placed Liverpool lie a point behind both Manchester City and Tottenham, who both have games in hand, and their odds of securing a Champions League berth are out to 11/4, while City have been cut to 5/4 (from 6/4) for a top-four finish and Spurs to 3/1 (from 100/30).

Sky Bet have also slashed Benitez’s odds of being the next Premier League manager to leave his post to 12/1 (from 20/1), while Roberto Martinez, whose side moved four points clear of the relegation zone with the win and are out to 7/1 for the drop, is a 10/1 chance to be the next manager out.

Challenge Cup Betting Update Following Fourth Round Draw

Leeds Rhinos have drifted in Sky Bet’s Challenge Cup betting to 3/1 from 5/2 following the fourth round draw, which saw them handed a tough away fixture against Hull. The Super League champions had previously been backed into 5/2 from 7/2 following substantial ante-post support.

The match, a repeat of the 2005 final, which was won by Hull, is the standout tie of the round and the Black and Whites have been lengthened themselves to 16/1 (from 12/1) to lift the trophy.

Other all-Super League encounters include Catalans v Salford, Harlequins v Wakefield and Huddersfield v Hull KR.

2008 winners St Helens, who face a home tie against Toulouse, remain 7/2 second favourites, while Warrington and Wigan, who have been drawn against lower league opposition, have both been cut to 6/1 (from 8/1).

Sky Bet’s rugby League betting spokesman Dave Sykes said: “With four Super League teams guaranteed not to make the next round, teams like Bradford, St Helens and Castleford will be looking to make the most of an indifferent start to the season with straightforward victories against Championship sides”

Waterford Seat Left Vacant Following The Resignation Of The Minister For Arts, Sports And Tourism Martin Cullen From The Cabinet And From The Dail – Fine Gael Odds-On To Win The Waterford By-Election

Paddy Power put Fine Gael in the driving seat to fill the seat in Waterford left vacant by the resignation of Minister for Arts, Sports & Tourism Martin Cullen from the Cabinet and from the Dáil last night.

Ireland’s leading bookie makes Fine Gael their odds-on favourite to successfully contest the by-election and increase their number of seats in Waterford from one to two.

With Martin Cullen’s resignation there are now three by-elections to be held; (Waterford, Dublin South and Donegal South West). Paddy Power are offering odds on when the by-elections will take place and make before the end of this year their odds-on 4/6 favourite.

Odds of 1/4 are also available on the current Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism being dissolved and absorbed into other existing ministries.

Paddy Power said, “I’m guessing that the government will be in no rush to hold these by-elections so the proposed referendum on children late this year seems a likely option.”
