Michael Owen Betting

Michael Owen is 6/4 to be handed Manchester United’s illustrious number seven shirt, according to bookie Paddy Power.

Worn by Manchester United legends such as Cantona, Best, Robson, Beckham, Ronaldo and, er, Webb it would be a controversial move by Sir Alex Ferguson to hand the coveted jersey to a former Liverpool player but there aren’t many numbers currently free in the United squad list. 26 and 27 follow in the betting at 5/1 whilst Owen’s favoured number 10 is 20/1 should Rooney vacate the number and move to the seven.

Paddy Power said: “United fans would be quite shocked to see a former Liverpool player in their treasured number seven shirt – but not nearly as surprised as Owen would be having been contemplating life at Hull City just a few days ago.”

Owen for England?

Owen has been cut to 5/4 to make it into Fabio Capello’s England World Cup squad. The move to Old Trafford has certainly improved Owen’s chances in the eyes of the bookies, having been out at 5/2 to go to South Africa when playing for Newcastle.

Owen is 9/2 to be United’s top league scorer this season and 5/4 to score against his former club and United’s arch rivals Liverpool.

But the question remains whether Fergie is taking a gamble on the injury-prone striker and Paddy Power is betting on how many Premier League games United play before Owen is declared unavailable due to injury. It’s 2/1 that Owen is available for the first eight games of the season but 10/1 that he’s out injured before the season’s curtain-raiser at home to Birmingham. It looks likely that United will have two injury-prone Owens on their books for the coming season and Paddy Power are betting which of Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves plays most games this season. At 8/11 Hargreaves is expected to feature more than Michael who is evens to play more.

But has Fergie signed Owen for his goal-scoring ability or for his mutual love of the gee-gees? Paddy Power are offering 14/1 that Owen and Ferguson joint own a horse by the end of the season.

Michael Owen Specials
25/1 Top Premier League Goalscorer
9/2 Top Man Utd Premier League Goalscorer
28/1 PFA Player of the Year
8/1 Man Utd Official Club Player of the Year
5/4 Owen to score against Liverpool this season
14/1 Buy a horse a joint own with Ferguson [READ ON - This article continues here...]

Girls Power On In Xpose Betting

Student actor Michael Coughlan remains the bookies favourite to win Total Xposure but only just, as the lion’s share of betting in week one of the new TV3 reality show was split between FM104 movie critic Sean Munsanjw and Assets stunner Ruth O’Neill.

Celebrity betting experts Paddy Power have cut the odds on Munsanjw winning from 6/1 to 4/1 and on Ruth O’Neill from 5/1 to 7/2. This now levels the playing field and makes for a very open competition with five of the contestants now less than 5/1 in the betting.

22-year old Michael Coughlan, the son of legendary Irish athlete Eamon Coughlan, was installed as Paddy Power’s favourite to land the presenting gig earlier this week but he has drifted slightly in their betting from 3/1 to 10/3.

Ken Robertson from Paddy Power said “Punters definitely believe that Ruth O’Neill is the value bet and at her current odds of 7/2 they could be right but will the predominantly female Xpose audience really want yet another Assets girl on the telly?” [READ ON - This article continues here...]

Weekend GAA Bulletin 4-5 Jul

This weekend will see the Leinster Hurling Championship and the Munster Football Championship finals contested for in two games that according to the Bookies price might look a little bit of a foregone conclusion.

Cork take on Limerick in the Munster football final and Paddy Power place Cork as the hot 1/10 favourites to seal their place in the All Ireland quarter finals.

In Leinster Anto Daly’s Dublin men face the threat of the Kilkenny Cats in Croke park.

Not surprisingly Kilkenny are the bookies favourite by a long way at 1/25, however Paddy Power is betting on the Handicap of the game where Dublin to start with a 12 point lead at +12 is 10/11.

Other bets include winning margin betting and double result, where Dublin to win the first half and Kilkenny to win the match is 10/1.

Paddy Power is also betting on all the other gaelic and hurling qualifying games this weekend. In Ulster Armagh meet Monaghan in a qualifier showdown. The neighbouring counties are tight in the betting with Paddy Power where Armagh are slight favourites at 4/5 with Monaghan slightly behind at 5/4.

Ashes 2009 Betting Preview

Battle recommences this summer for one of sport’s biggest rivalries with England 9/4 outsiders to wrestle back the urn from 8/13 favourites Australia in what looks set to be the biggest cricket series ever for betting.

England are 9/1 for a repeat of their famous 2-1 victory in 2005 but, as the Aussies are quick to remind everyone, there’s been another series since then and Ricky Ponting’s team are 16/1 to repeat their 5-0 whitewash in the 2006/07 series.

Speaking of the Australian skipper, Paddy Power are betting on which England’s bowler will concede Ponting’s 11,175 Test run. The landmark figure, sure to come during the series, would make Ponting Australia’s all-time leading runscorer, putting him third on the list behind only Tendulkar and Lara.

On the Australian theme, Paddy Power’s specials include betting on Warnie’s Words. The spin legend and true blue Aussie will be sure to ruffle some feathers when he joins the Sky commentary team for the summer and the bookie is betting on which phrase Warnie uses first. Phrases include “G’day mate” at 6/1, “strewth” at 12/1 and “Advanced Hair Studios” at 66/1. “C’mon England” is an unlikely 25/1.

On England’s side there is betting on the number of Tests Freddie Flintoff plays in, how many tons KP scores and how many times Aussie spinner Michael Clarke takes KP’s prized wicket with “left arm filth”

As well as the regular correct score and top runscorer/wicket taker betting Paddy Power’s Money-Back Special on the Ashes will refund all losing outright bets on the Series if there are no drawn matches.

Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Preview 4 Jul

Paddy Power makes John Oxx’s English Derby hero Sea The Stars a warm 5-6 favourite to capture Saturday’s Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. Conduit and Rip Van Winkle are both next best in the market at 4-1 with Ireland’s biggest and friendliest layer.Paddy Power himself said: Sea The Stars has been solid in our Eclipse market attracting plenty of support and nothing else has really been backed. He looks an obvious winner, with the ground likely to be in his favour and John Oxx having said that the big mile and a quarter races would be just up his street, and I think the opposition will be seaing the stars after a knockout blow.

ECLIPSE

Paddy Power: 5-6 Sea The Stars, 4 Conduit, Rip Van Winkle, 8 Cima De Triomphe, 16 Twice Over, 50 Jukebox Jury, 80 Malibu Bay, 100 Steele Tango, 200 Lang Shining, Set Sail [READ ON - This article continues here...]

Eoghan Quigg’s Quest For A New Label

Northern Ireland singing sensation, Eoghan Quigg, is rumoured to have been dropped from his label, RMC, and Paddy Power Bookmakers, who supported Eoghan throughout the X-Factor, are betting on who will snap up the young superstar with EMI top of the list as the 7/4 favourites.

Apparently the reason that RMC gave for releasing the young Dungiven man was because of poor sales of his debut album, self entitled ‘Eoghan Quigg’.

Paddy Power has also included a number of the giants in the music business as possible takers of the local X-Factor finalist.

Universal are 3/1, Warner Bros. Records are 4/1 and Syco Records/Sony BMG are 10/1, also in the running is ex Westlife band member Brian McFaddens Label BMF at 9/4, Daniel O’Donnell’s, Rosette Records further down the betting at 12/1 and at 50/1 Michael Jackson’s fathers new label is the outsider.

Patrick Tohill, spokesperson for Paddy Power’ said; ‘This news has come as quite a surprise to us all at Paddy Power because I’m sure that everyone of us bought his record over the Christmas/New Year period either as a secret addition to our own collection or as a present for a daughter or little sister.
I have no doubt that he’ll get snapped up nice and quickly by another label and get a new even better album out on the shelves in time for the Autumn.’

Paddy Power is also betting on Eoghan’s future success where he is 3/1 with the Bookie to have an Irish No.1 Album in 2010. [READ ON - This article continues here...]
